Government Beyond Recovery: Learning from the crisis to create a future adaptive public sector

About a year ago, on November 17, 2020, the Ministry of Interior organized the conference on "Innovation and Crisis Management". The conference was organized within the framework of the international initiative of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development "Government After Shock" in order to review the challenges of the crisis and how they are managed by the public administration. The crisis, a year ago, had changed many of our approaches and focused on managing the challenges through innovation. Three key questions were then asked:

  • What should we keep?
  • What should we leave behind?
  • What should we do differently?

    At the conference of the Ministry of Interior, more than 400 participants attended the planning of the Greek public administration in critical areas. More than 6,000 people from around the world attended the Government After Shock OECD conference on November 18, 2020, to learn how the crisis can be a guide to building better public services.

    The issues that emerged were:

    • In times of crisis, the public sector can be efficient and work out of the ordinary,
    • Digital transformation and data have a positive impact when

    On November 17, 2020, the Ministry of Interior, organized a conference on innovation management and managing of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis as well as the actions we are looking for the next day. The conference was completed with a great deal of participation and remarkable conclusions, lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes and was attended by 418 people, who participated from the beginning to its completion.

    The Minister of Interior presented the Ministry's actions regarding human resources management in the public sector during the crisis, whose innovative features consist, among other things, of teleworking, alternative working hours, protection forms of vulnerable social groups and supporting policies of the Greek family.     On November 17, 2020, Minister of the Interior, Mr. P. Theodorikakos presents, at the Conference organized by the Ministry, the Ministry's actions to promote innovation in the Public Sector. Ministry's of Interior Conferance is part of the two-day Government After Shock Event held by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

    The Minister Mr. P. Theodorikakos will also participate in the OECD's High Level Forum round table discussion  "Inside the emergency: lessons in delivering national responses to a crisis" which aims to highlight how each government responded to the pandemic crisis and how innovative practices, whether decentralized or national, operate towards a common goal or mission.

    “Let’s code, girls ‘n’ boys!!!” event- EU Code Week 0 (0)

    On October, 20th and 21st, 108 primary school students from various areas of the country participated in “Let’s code, girls ‘n’ boys!!!” coding event at the National Library of Greece at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC).

    The event was organised by Unit of Innovation and Best Practices (Ministry of Administrative Reconstruction), in collaboration with Oracle Academy (http://academy.oracle.com), supported by Revive Greece (http://revivegreece.org/) and Open Technologies Alliance-GFOSS  (www.eellak.gr ) and is part of the actions of EU Code Week.

    The Minister of Administrative Reconstruction, Ms. M. Xenogiannakopoulou, welcomed the participants. Greetings were also addressed by the Head of General Directorate of Public Organisations, Mr. N. Michalopoulos, the Head of Unit of Innovation and Best Practices, Mr. C. Kokkalas, the PR & the Corporate Citizenship Specialist, GCMM cluster of countries, Oracle Hellas, Ms. E. Tsipa and Mr. T. Dalla Vecchia from European Schoolnet Network via Skype.
